Timgad is a Roman archaeological city located in the state of Batna, Algeria, it was called Tamoukadi built in 100 AD during the reign of Trajan, and it was initially playing a defensive role to later become a cultural center and it is the only city of the Romans to maintain its model form in Africa and it is registered in the World Heritage List and a secret of history.
Timgad is located 36 km east of the state of Batna, the capital of the Auras, more than 418 km east of Algiers, and it was built by the Romans in the year 100 AD during the reign of Emperor Trajan, who ordered its construction for strategic purposes, but it turned into a population center, and it was built on an area of 11 hectares at first, and the Romans called it Tamoukadi, and the original city has a beautiful design, as it is cut by two large roads intersecting from east to west and from north to south, each street ends with two large doors At its ends, decorated with two huge but elaborately carved arches, the Romans then built a series of residences and facilities that they were usually keen to build in their cities, and surrounded the city with a large wall to protect it.
