About

The National Cultural Park of the Ahgar is a national park located in the Hog-gar mountain range (Ahgar) in the southernmost province of Tamanrasset. The park is characterized by its mountainous terrain strewn with crooked acacia, flowing acacia, myrtle, leafless athel, bitter melon and others.

The cultural enclosure of Al-Ahgar is an ideal environment for scientific re-search specialized in the geology, plant and animal fields, in addition to its cul-tural importance due to its archaeological sites as well as many inscriptions and rock drawings dating back more than one million years.

When it was created on December 3, 1987, the Ahgar National Park was placed under the supervision of the Algerian Ministry of Culture. Its area at that time was 450,000 square kilometers, then increased to 535,000 square kilometers, reaching the current level of 633,887 square kilometers..
