The National Public Museum in Setif is a museum located in Setif, eastern Algeria. It displays the past of the city and neighboring cities from prehistoric times, to the Numidian, Roman, Is-lamic, Ottoman and colonial eras through remains discovered in archaeological sites in the re-gion.
The idea of establishing an archaeological museum that collects the found pieces goes back From the excavations in Setif and its surrounding areas until the end of the nineteenth century, when the first museum specializing in stone antiquities was established in 1896 in the garden of Emir Abdelkader, then in 1932 in the Muhammad Kairouani High School, then the former Pal-ace of Justice in 1968, which was the first museum opened after... The country's independence.
The museum's collections are very rich, there are pieces from prehistory, antiquity, Islamic arts and numismatics. Thus one can discover collections of archaeological remains, most of which date back to the Roman era, resulting from excavations carried out in Setives, Qal'a Beni Ham-mad and Djamila.
